With last seasons LAUGHABLE display from our Goalkeepers except Vito Mannone when he needed to step in we are out for a top class goalkeeper and besides Schwarzer who might be just too old we have been strongly linked with the above 2.
Who would like one of the above 2 and who would like someone else and why...?! Comment by

I would like to see Akinfeev but I'm worried that we won't see anyone. None of our goalkeepers look set to leave (on loan or otherwise) and I'm starting to get nervous.
You know Arsene - he probably thinks that with so many goalkeepers in the squad that there must be one that can make the NO 1 short his own. The problem is that we, the fans, don't want to take any risks in this position. Not many teams have been successful without a decent keeper. With Campbell looking set to move on I can see the choice being a new keeper or new defender, and money-conscious Arsene going with the latter. Of course, we need both. Dan Comment by

I have thought since the end of the season that we would not sign any new keepers. Anyay what do we actually know about keepers like Akinveev. Its not the same as outfield players. the best goalkeepers are in the poorer teams cos they get more oppertunites to shine. Keepers in good teams have often little to do. The only keepers that have ever impressed me are Given (and we missed that bus) and Casillas (he aint going nowhere). So the next keeper is a complete mystery.
Me? I'd book Bob Wilson for 3 months coaching and tell our three stooges to get their act sorted out or else. Comment by

Yep, it's looking like the real question is, "Who do we want in goals next season - Almunia, Szczesny or Fabianski?"
The Emirates Cup should help us and Mr. Wenger decide. Comment by

I agree Martin - many of the fundamental flaws in our game last season could be easily remedied at Colney , and Arsenal are not short of potential coaches, in all areas of play.
I do sense a slight change in Wengers outlook this summer, but I fear the number of signings I'd like to see - Melo, Mertesacker, Stekelenburg, Wright-Phillips, Diakhate - will NOT materialise. Almunia HAS been linked with Atletico Madrid, so there is hope for a change of Keeping Personnel. I favour Stekelenburg, ONLY Bcoz I saw him in the World Cup, whereas I've not seen much or anything of the others. Marchetti price has 'reportedly' doubled overnight, and Scwarzer is both elderly and prone to occasional howlers (albeit fewer than Almunia). These remain worrying times for Gooners, but I would not change management and will NEVER change allegiance. Besides, we have a TWO-YEAR Party to enjoy .... May 2011 will B Spurs 50th Anniversary, n 'Arrys already bought the first round o drinks, by stating they'll win the League this year. PLAYED 'Arry! - once a Gooner, always a Gooner! Happy Dayz are here again ....... YinA, CB! Comment by

Did anyone see Akinfeev's howler for CSKA against Spartak today?
I am surprised we are not more heavily linked with Sebastian Frey,Fiorentina's under-rated Frenchman especially in light of them recently signing Boruc.Frey would certainly do a job for us. That said Manuel did himself no harm today with a string of fine saves. |
