To honour David Danskin, the founder and first captain of Arsenal FC, Arsenal Scotland Supporters Club and the Burntisland Heritage Trust organised a commemorative blue plaque ceremony on Monday 23rd July 2007.
The plaque was unveiled by Bob Wilson, former Arsenal & Scotland goalkeeper and the Honorary President for ASSC and Richard Wyatt, grandson of David Danskin. The plaque is located in the Kirkgate at the corner of Somerville Street, near to where David was born in 1863.
There was a big turn out for the event with representitives from Arsenal FC, Arsenal Scotland Supporters Club, Deputy Lord Provost of Fife, the Burntisland Heritage Trust and Burntisland Shipyard FC. Sky Sport News and BBC London also came along to film the event.
A big thank must go out to Bob Wilson, Sue & Graham Campbell and Richard & Michelle Wyatt for taking the time to honour this event. Sue Campbell representing Arsenal FC and her husband Graham travelled up from London and Richard & Michelle made a special trip from Montreal, Canada to pay tribute to Richard's Grandfather. We must thank the Burntisland Heritage Trust for making this event possible.
